I'm feeling down so I thought I'd spend lots of money. Anybody able to reccomend anything I want? Digital camera is springing to mind but I know little about them... anybody?
wanna do a quick review of your camera? I think I'd use one a lot but I know very little about them really. And what exactly do you mean by not cheap? 200 quid? or more?
I have an Olympus Camedia C-900 zoom. (One of the series recommended by cbvampst below, who seems quite clued up.)
It actually cost me about 400 quid, but that was back when it was newly released, so you could probably find one for a bit less now. Also, it's 2.1 megapixel, has a 3x optical zoom and has a (rather basic) movie mode, all of which add a little to the price.
I wouldn't recommend buying a 'budget' digital camera because if you ever take a really ace photo you'll be kicking yourself if it's too fuzzy or low-res to get a clean print from !
It really depends on what you want to do with the pictures. If you want to have a quick fire camera for fun and put some of the pics on the net, look at the Olympus Camedia or the cheaper Fuji range, 1.5 Megapixels will do fine for that for about 200-250 quid. Also look for packages with added memory cards. If you want to have decent prints taken off them, you should be looking at at least 2.5 Megapixels. More important is a USB interface as serial sucks big time, although I think most of them are. I still recommend am USB SmartMedia reader (about 40 quid) for downloading the pictures as this will save the batteries. Make sure you buy rechargeable batteries (NiMH) as you will go through alkalines very quickly and it's just not worth buying loads (besides them being a disposal problem).
A decent allround camera with the odd extra shouldn't cost you more than 300 quid.
I've been exceptionally happy with my DC, which is a Kodak DX3500, but that's mainly because it's idiot proof. Take from charging station, point, click, replace on charging station, press button, photos appear on PC. It's been replaced by the very similar DX3600, which you should be able to pick up for about 250 quid.
