Following some prodding - seems like I can comment on some people's posts and not on others.
Which, added to the status.livejournal.com latest thing, would suggest it's only affecting some clustery things and not others - ie journals rather than users, if that makes sense. I'm on 'Santa', and can't update my journal...
Of course, if Chris can still comment on my journal, then I'm wrong ;)
We're both right - paid users live on different clusters, IIRC :)
But it certainly isn't 'free users can't do anything at all, we're big blue meanies' like some of the whingers seem to be claiming...
...I'm just intrigued as to why something which sounds like it was a deliberate decision took so long to be mentioned on lj-maintainance - if I were them, I'd want to put known problems up ASAP to cut down on repeated reports of errors.

Sorry to correct you but it would seem that we are both right apart from you since I believe you said you were on Santa and so am I. :)
And yeah, I agree about the reporting ASAP. I'd guess there was a breakdown of communication somewhere along the line. In my experience of these sorts of things one guy notices the problem, takes the usual course of action of hitting the "light load" button and then climbs inside the database server. Four hours later somebody else goes, "Umm... I can't *see* the post were you say you disabled everything" at which point the first guy swears and curses and says "Could you do it for me? I'll buy you a drink."

Well, feel free to post anything you want here and transfer it to your LJ later. :)
