Tonight, I have mostly been watching star wars. As performed on the stage by one man. With no props even. It was awesome.

The warmup act was funny and then after an intermission came the main act. Abridged of course the original trilogy was performed to us with the guy, Charles Ross doing all the voices, sound effects and acting out of the saga. At first I was worried it was going to be not as good as I'd hoped. The beginning of star wars flew past with it just being one man doing star wars. But as it went on the way he was doing the lines added that subtle twist to you view of the characters. And later on there were a few more lines that weren't in the original film.

I'm not going to pick out specific lines because so much of it is the way he did it rather than what he did. The space battles were great. The fights were good. It was a brilliant laugh. I think one of the things that most showed how much he had done this was that when he was playing that parts of two characters acting against each other the actions of one would often end in the right pose for the next character taking over. A change of voice and a subtle change of posture suddenly managed to totally transform tha character. In addition some of his voices were absolutely spot on. He even did a good wookie and a good R2.

For those who are saying "Oh great, tell me about something I've missed" well fear not. One reason I am saying this is because I am going to tell people to go see it. His website is http://www.onemanstarwars.com/ and although it doesn't list london dates he did say he was going to be playing in November I think. Silly website doesn't list that far though. The website does list contact details for some guy on the tour schedule page though. I assume he is the person organising it and thus can be pestered for dates and theatre if you want to go. And I highly reccomend it. Cost me 12.50 and it was money well spent.

It was indeed awesome. Due to late booking, I ended up in the front row - but thankfully just to the left of the danger zone...

There's a London date right there - Croydon Fairfield Halls on 22 September. (For those who don't think Croydon's in London, Fairfield Halls is in zone 5, a 20-minute train journey from Victoria plus a 5-10 minute walk.)

Thank you very much for pointing to this; about to book tickets :)

Ah, Croydon's easier for us since [livejournal.com profile] rjw1 will be coming from work and so can get a direct train from Farringdon, and I'll be coming from Bermondsey so can get a direct train from London Bridge. Plus it's sooner!

Thanks for the warning. We've ended up in row Q (closest to the front still available) so I think we'll be safe :)

Thanks again for posting about this. I went with [livejournal.com profile] rjw1 and [livejournal.com profile] johnckirk and we all enjoyed it. I should have read your post more carefully, since I hadn't been expecting the warmup act or the intermission. Our intermission was really long for some reason; people were getting rather bored and restless by the end.
