One Man star wars
Sep. 14th, 2006 10:02 pmTonight, I have mostly been watching star wars. As performed on the stage by one man. With no props even. It was awesome.
The warmup act was funny and then after an intermission came the main act. Abridged of course the original trilogy was performed to us with the guy, Charles Ross doing all the voices, sound effects and acting out of the saga. At first I was worried it was going to be not as good as I'd hoped. The beginning of star wars flew past with it just being one man doing star wars. But as it went on the way he was doing the lines added that subtle twist to you view of the characters. And later on there were a few more lines that weren't in the original film.
I'm not going to pick out specific lines because so much of it is the way he did it rather than what he did. The space battles were great. The fights were good. It was a brilliant laugh. I think one of the things that most showed how much he had done this was that when he was playing that parts of two characters acting against each other the actions of one would often end in the right pose for the next character taking over. A change of voice and a subtle change of posture suddenly managed to totally transform tha character. In addition some of his voices were absolutely spot on. He even did a good wookie and a good R2.
For those who are saying "Oh great, tell me about something I've missed" well fear not. One reason I am saying this is because I am going to tell people to go see it. His website is http://www.onemanstarwars.com/ and although it doesn't list london dates he did say he was going to be playing in November I think. Silly website doesn't list that far though. The website does list contact details for some guy on the tour schedule page though. I assume he is the person organising it and thus can be pestered for dates and theatre if you want to go. And I highly reccomend it. Cost me 12.50 and it was money well spent.
