House is doing fine at the moment (or flat or whatever). I had a man from sky come round this mornign after having sorted out my worries with the freeholder. I was worried that he didn't want a satellite dish anywhere near the place but turns out he is a nice reasonable guy and all is good. We chatted about dish position on friday and decided that the chimney stack would be the way to go. Unfortuantely this meant the man coming round this morning had to call in backup in terms of the "tall heights" team (or something like that). This basically means that on thursday 2 people will come round with bigger ladders or better shoes for walking around on roofs or something. And they will install my dish and stuff.
According to letters my internet should kick in tomorrow which will be good. I'll wait to see though (they are apparently going to send me a text when its activated).
I now have my TV in my flat thanks to help from old housemate R. Its quite amazing how much better I feel for just being able to have background TV or consoles to play on in the evening. I think part of my current moping about is because my house is very sparse. If I get bored of unpacking I'd better damn well hope I'm in the mood for doing some reading. :) I've only actually hooked up my XBOX at the moment because I figure that when the sky people install stuff I'll need to move all the TV stuff out the way. Also I'll be able to fit things on better once I know how big the SkyHD+ box thing is...
Also I had my first "Oh god, do I really want to live here" moment on Friday night.
mi_guida had come round, we'd watched DVDs and we were just talking about it being late and probably time to crash out. Then I heard shouting. From the slightly open bathroom windows came the sounds of a domestic from the next door neighbours. There was screaming there was shouting, there was attempts to throw people out the house and there weas a guy kicking the front door (or side door or whatever door it was outside my bathroom window).
I am not entirely sure what was going on but there was enough screaming and shouting that I did consider calling the police. I held off mainly because there seemed to be a lot of shouting and he seemed to be happy doing that rather than actually being violent. His kicking of the front door was more of an outletting than seriously trying to kick the door down or anything. In the end I was rather amused because I think that his parents came to take him away. An elderly (probably in 50s) couple basically came along and dragged him off with promises that "We'll sort him out, don't worry." (and I had heard shouts of "Just go with your mum" so I know it wasn't just an older then usual goonsquad draagging him off for a kicking).
It was quite scary though. I am really glad I had company to calm me down afterwards (there was probably about 20 minutes of this interrupted with occasional silence). I feel very sorry for the young lad that seemed to be there. I don't know what relation he was but he looked about 10-12 ish and given ho w I felt as a neighbour it must be horrible to be there in the middle of it all.
I hope it doesn't happen again...
Otherwise though in general happier with the house as time goes on. Sometime soon I'll have my TV and stuff set up and have unpacked a lot of my bedroom stuff which will mean I'll be looking at sofas seriously... With teh big question of one or two sofas. I need to actual plan my living room layout I think... :)
