A day talking to orange
Apr. 7th, 2003 06:11 pmWell, further to my last message I've talked to lots more orange people.
Today they bothered to tell me the potentially relevant piece of information that my closest transmitter is having maintenance done at the moment. Apparently its been getting worked on since towards the end of february. Anybody care to guess when my phone stopped working? Yeah, end of february.
One guy suggested some fixes to change which transmitter I was talking to but since all they did was deselected and reselected orange as my network I am not sure how it was meant to work.
So having confirmed that it didn't work I came up with a plan. I recited the mantra "a month and a half of paying for zero service" to myself several times and then felt I was in a state to phone customer services again. This time I gave them an earfull. The girl didn't deserve it but then, neither do I.
She however did put a note on my record saying that I have been offered a refund (which I will sort out when I know exactly how much I am demanding). By this time we have established that it is my model of phone not talking to fucked orange transmitters. So I say to them that I want a new model of phone so that I can talk to people. No can do. Why not? Because they can't. Why not? Because they can only replace my phone with the same model (under orange care). Why? Because that's all they can do. Why? Because they aren't allowed to give out... YEah, you get the idea.
In the end she suggests that the orange shop might be able to help. Worth knowing. So I went in there this afternoon and explained my problem. She phoned orange to confirm wha I had said to them and then passed me over.
"All I need to do is arrange a time and we can replace your handset." "Ummm... Tried that. Didn't work." "Sorry?" "The handset has been replaced already and it didn't help. It worked from somerset. THe phone isn't at fault." "THen what do you want me to do?" "Give me a different handset?" "I can't do that." "Well, what can I say? That's the only thing that I think will work." "Well, I can't do that. They might be able to in the orange shop."
That conversation ended pretty quickly after that. I then waited ten minutes since the girl in the shop had gone to another customer while I had my fulfilling conversation. After bottom lining it to the girl in the shop ("Replacement phone. Please. Really, I don't want to try other options. If it doesn't work I'll come back.") I was sorted. Left a small deposit for them (monetary) and now have a crappy phone but one that has signal and connection.
Hopefully on thursday they will have fixed the transmitter (this is when they say they will have it done by) and my decent shiny mobile phone will work again. If not then orange get more gried on friday. Oh what fun this is.
On other news, had a good weekend. :)

Nooooo !

Re: Nooooo !
Date: 2003-04-08 04:27 am (UTC)On friday they *will* do something about it if they haven't got it fixed though. I intend to say "Can you get me a new handset? No? Can you put me through to your superior please." and do this until I get to somebody who can bend slightly. Hopefully it won't come to that though. I don't like harrassing relative innocents. AFter all, its not their fault that they are not allowed to give me a new phone.
Alternatively there is a section in the orange telephone network that says "If you are thinking of leaving orange press here." And it occurs to me that they might be able to bend a bit more in order to keep customers.
Otherwise last resort is to go and destroy the local antenna so that they have to put a different one online to replace it and that might work.
And I fully intend to find a very nice mobile phone somewhere and demand it for free as an upgrade for compensation afterwards.
