Dragon Blooded *bounce*
Jul. 23rd, 2002 02:14 pmSpent half an hour over lunch sketching up the plot for my dragon blooded game. I am bouncing lots at the thought of running this (though slightly worried because I have never run anything as politically as this might be). I do also have one other concern with my plot. There might be too much of it. :)
I started off with a simple premise (which I won't name because players are reading this). I then built up a few of the key players in this plot (I have rough idea of what the PCs are whcih is socialisers so I need lots of NPCs probbaly). I then came up with a bit more of the setting. This then gave rise to some other interesting plots. And now I am worried it might explode out of control. :) It is only meant to be a one off test run... :)
My main concern really now is fleshing out all the NPCs. I am planning to start it at a party which will probably have at least 50 or so people at it, possibly more. I'm thinking that they will talk to a fair few of these so I need some idea of who is there. I don't need to stat them but I probably need at least Name, House, One sentence description (or more). And I hate names. :)
Oh well, it should be glorious at least. :)
Anyway, back to work now. Troubleshooting to do which is more interesting than documentation. :)

Cool !
Date: 2002-07-23 06:20 am (UTC)It's the same thing which I regret about the RPGSoc society game - we created something good, but in the process lost much more. Why ? Because people focussed on the soc-game instead of doing their own radical creative thang.

Date: 2002-07-23 06:47 am (UTC)Secondly there is the confidence factor whcih is the bane of my existance. I've run a few little RPGs and played in many. The stuff i have run has always been for close friends who I trust enough that I'm not embarrassed or worried about being crap with them. If I were to run a game I don't want to run it with a small group of people but I worry and hide from running stuff for people I don't know as well etc. With the cam job I wouldn't be running anything so no worries there. the plots I came up with would be run by other STs if they liked them which means a) no crap plots I wrote would see the light of day b) the plots would be run by other people and it is their responsibility to make sure it works. :)
I have a few tabletops I'd like to run. For a start I want to run a solar exalted game as well as a dragon blooded one. I also want to run a Stargate game (with Steve probably/possibly) at some point. It seems that I am just a whole lot happier coming up with ideas than I am running stuff.
I know it is a silly worry since the games I have run have been well received. I've run some Star Wars which the players seem to thoroughly enjoy (so they tell me though their failure to answer the questions I have asked them means I'm not running anythign for them at the moment *hint*). I ran a one off solar exalted game which althoguh completely off track and derailed from the original intent seemed popular enough (thoguh i ascribe that to the players having fun with each other ratehr than anything i did). I dunno. Maybe I should just jump in at the deep end and run some more stuff and get confidence that way. Bit of a vicious circle really cos that is scary... :)
Anyway, more of a wibbling answer than you expected I'm sure. :)

Date: 2002-07-23 07:42 am (UTC)Even if there's some irony involved that when there's people who I think shouldn't be attempting big games they always seem to, somehow.

Date: 2002-07-23 06:55 am (UTC)Plus I think you will find that it will depend on how we react, working out name and descriptions for 50 guys is a tall order, what if we only speak to 3?
It's your call, your game, everyone has different styles.

Date: 2002-07-23 06:59 am (UTC)Also given your characters' set-ups (non-fighty, not that thinky and *highly* social) I would expect the game to be a lot more about talking to people than about looking for clues or fighting people. I may be wrong of course and will be happy for it to go other ways but it is much easier to ad-lib a fight scene or two than to make up a single character name. :)
I almsot certainly won't name all of them unless I can find a system of doing so to make my life easier and almost certianly there will just be crap names towards the end.
I might even ask for people to start giving me names on here... :) If five people come up with 3 names that is fifteen character names already. :) Another fifteen myself and half the party is sorted. :)
I'll sort it out though, don't worry. :)

Date: 2002-07-23 03:55 pm (UTC)Mmmmm.
As for names, try this:
1) pick a nice flowery name for a colour
2) pick an interesting animal's name
3) pick a precious stone of your choice
4) choose a feature of physical or political geography
5) choose a number between 1-10 or factors of 10
6) choose the name of an interesting and appropriate-sounding plant
Pick and mix any 2/3/3 of the above. For example, Thousand Orchid Storm would work nicely for a Wind aspected combat munchie and Onyx Tiger for an Earth aspected social prowler...
