I have bricks

I am now officially a house owner. The money has gone through, completion has happened and I get to pick up the keys whenever I feel like it basically (I'm debating lunch time or after work - I'll probably go for the latter since I wouldn't have time to do much of anything at lunch).

I've sorted out a phone line to be active from wednesday evening (I'm told I'mm not allowed to give out the number they gave me until its gone active, presumably in case they decide they can't be bothered to give me that particular number).

Things I need to sort out now are:

1) Sky
2) Fridge (I am pretty sure they were taking their one with them but will be prepared to be pleasantly surprised)
3) Moving my stuff
4) Curtains for the bedrooms (on rechecking the living room and kitchen apparently are keeping their curtains)
5) living room furniture
6) Spare room furniture


One thing I am pondering at the moment is how to move all my stuff. I think I am going to need a van as I think discussed earlier. I'm also likely to want a few helpers so if anybody feels like a bit of heavy lifting then do let me know. I will pay in pizza and beer or something similar. I don't really have a scheduled plan for any of this at this stage - I'm feeling a little overwhelmed to be honest so I'm likely to just take it step by step rather than trying to plan all of it at once... I think I consider the fridge to be the most important thing currently in some ways since with no fridge I'll have nowhere to put things like cheese, butter, milk and lots of other things I consider essential for food (I actually was struggling to think of meals I could cook that I wouldn't want something that keeps in a fridge).

I think I'm probably wanting something more fridge/freezery (I don't like the freezer compartments on fridges apart from to keep ice trays in). Shall bear it in mind while I go web shopping (like window shopping but with the web) this week.

Also if I buy a new one from somewhere then I can get them to deliver and do all the hard work manhandling it up the stairs and stuff. :)

Pasta with tinned tomatoes, tinned tuna and balsamic vinegar (and possibly tinned/jarred olives) doesn't need a fridge, although if you don't finish the entire tins of things you'll want to put those somewhere afterwards :)

Fine plans but for the fact I don't like tomatoes sauces like that or tuna or olives... :)

I know there are things you can cook but most of mine would involve a jar of sauce that I wouldn't finish (and thus that I'd want to store in the friddge for later use) or cheese (grated on top of pasta but I guess in the short term I could get around this by going to the shops after work and buying 100g of cheese and just using it all). Fact is though that it shouldn't take me long to sort out and I'm not being kicked out of current place and *hopefully* shouldn't take long to sort a fridge out anyway...

It's autumn, pretend you're a student and keep the cheese in a box outside your windowsill. It might work for bacon for a couple of days too if not in the sun.

You could always eat cake? No? never mind then... oh! and i agree completely with separate fridge/freezer. It's a joy to have a proper freezer at the moment and i think it's more efficient at keeping cool than if you're opening the fridge all the time and then the freezer ices up and... yes... that.
