Chiropractor visit

Last night I went to see a chiropractor because I sometimes have back issues and more recently occasional strong pains in my neck. I'd had a reccomendation of somebody to see and finally got around to it.
I'd been told where to go and the directions were easy to follow. Except when I got inside. It was on Beaumont street and was a big buildign that seemed to have loads of people working in it. This confused me initially as I walked in, saw a sign pointing to "waiting room" and thought "oh, good". And then saw all the signs that said I was in a dentist...
I walked outside and looekd for signs to check I was in the right building and then explore this abandoned building. It turns out that it was the right building but the lady I was seeing seemed to be the only one doing evening work. Well, apart from the various cleaners and decorators and so on... One of them helpfully pointed me in the right direction and I found the waiting room.
I saw a nice lady who told me things I kind of already knew but had constructive criticism. Basically my posture is bad and she told me exactly what the effects of this were which was interesting. This was after she had poked me and peered at me in an investigative fashion. She then poked and prodded me in a constructive fashion, making "adjustments".
This was rather funny. Upper back was simple. She pressed in th right places on my back and then when I least suspected it pushed really really hard and put significant force on it. I have to admit it was unexpected but she explained that it was kind of hard to describe the force without causing the person to tense up for it and I had to be relaxed. After that I just started giggling when she did stuff to me. I think she was a little worried at first til I reassured her that for some reason I just found it very funny to hear my back crunching. I had warned her beforehand too but I dont' think she believeed me.
The lower back crunches were funny too. Lying on my side she puts weight on one knee that is stuck out in front of me to pull my back forward, puts force on my body with her hands in various other places and then just pushes hard everywhere. Then seemed happy and put me back where I was. It struck me that it was quite na interesting trust exercise in some ways because the position she put me in I was relying on her holding me to not fall off of the table-like thing I was lying on. She seemed quite impressed actually with my trust. I think it says something that I am so quick to trust hot women that I've only known for 30 minutes. ;-)
When she came to doign the neck I was a bit worried in hindsight. She positioned my head and then I swear did exactly what you see people on films do when they break people's necks. This however didn't seem to break my neck and probably made it do good things instead.
It was all kind of fun all in all. I've been making notes on my posture and how I'm sitting at various points in the day and have tried moving around my computer and keyboard and chair and stuff to sit better. Its not all workign though. :) Going to see her again at the weekend though to see what she can do with me then and discuss posture in more length. the problem yesterday was that when asked how I sat I didn't really know the answer. I don't really pay enough attention to how I'm sitting to be able to tell somebody while I'm not actually at my desk sitting like that (hence making notes throughout the day).
Anyway, just another update. I'm goign to try to do more.
Possibly later or tomorrow a post about my new car windscreen which should be arriving soon... Its a long story.

Exactly! This is the only bit I don't giggle at - I really hate it. Stretches my trust to the limit.

Date: 2008-07-17 03:09 pm (UTC)It's now three years since I decided I was 'definately' going to get one of those chairs you kneel in to stop myself slouching.
