Film premieres

A question I was just asked that had me wondering what the answer was...

If you wanted to go to a film premiere then what is the best way to get tickets? Can it even be done without a lot of nepotism?

If it makes any difference the film in question that provoked this is "The Golden Compass" which I am told is due for release in a little over 6 months time.

The best way is to be given them free for some reason.

But it is sometimes possible to find them on eBay. Or you can buy them for a small fortune.

Ah, I hadn't really thought that they would go on general sale, to be honest. I was more expecting answers more along the lines of "These are the people that you need to blag them from". Did you actually find details of how small a fortune it required? It seemed to imply that they would give you a price after enquiry but figured the very fact they don't list prices might be what made you deduce it would be a small fortune. :)

Haven't found any reliable price info. Brief websearchery hinted at a minimum of £200.

The only time I got them was when i wprked for LogicaCMG and their film society got occasional tickets to royal gala premieres.

Friend working in PR in London (LJ id withheld to protect the innocent) might be a useful source of tips on such things, I would imagine.

Alternatively, rapidly schmoozing the book's author, who's known to at least one person on your flist...

Oooh... how exciting! I wonder who... Though I don't wonder that much since I've not even read a book and was asking more on behalf of a friend (though I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to go to a movie premiere).
