In about a month my work christmas event is happening and its dress code is "Hollywood" - anything relating to it, characters, actors, etc. I have considered, after some prompting by others, the possibilities of Captain Jack Sparrow, everybody's favourite pirate of the caribbean.

The problem is I have no costume that is suitable for this and no ability to make it and no desire to pay for it. And this is where I turn to my many LJ friends. Vast numbers of you are roleplayers or dress up for a variety of other reasons including BECAUSE ITS COOL!

You can see where this is goign can't you? Does anybody have any piratical and specifically captain jackish costume they can lend me? I will happily shell out drinks in gratitude and come collect things though there is of course the practicality of how close to home you are as to whether borrowing is really practical.

Help me, LJ, you are my only hope.

P.S. Pictures will be made available if I do this costume. :)

Considering you're almost twice as tall as me, I see a problem. My kit isn't very Cap'n Jack, anyway, more generically pirate.

Its that one :D

I have fake (black) boot tops too, which might be helpful. No tricorn, but have an old leather drovers hat i intend to (kinda) turn into one. Unlikely (ie, not going to happen) to be getting down to Oxford before Sunday 17th, erm, so not sure how helpful that is.

Is it the coat I currently have? If not bring it up to Glasgow (if you can make it after all, hope so) and I'll bring it down to London?

Well, I could lend you my 19th century-style shirt and the red sash I have. Though I'm thinking the shirt may be a teeeensy bit too big, I shall show it to you at some opportune moment. I may also have somewhere, somewhere somewhere these things that you have over your shoes that make it look like you're wearing piratey boots when you in fact are not.

Indeed.

Please please please Chris rephrase that.

Or don't.

Will be happy to show you my bits and pieces.

Oh aye, i have shirt[s] which might be appropriate - and a gold/yellow waist sash which might help. Also a couple of long waistcoats one of which might work.

I'm a little more expansive of belly though ;)

Its the hair/beard you're going to need though.

"The problem is I have no costume that is suitable for this and no ability to make it and no desire to pay for it."

Which suggests you can afford to, right?

If you can afford to do it, raiding friends' wardrobes is a bit off. PLUS if you're going vintage there's a very high chance you will find nothing to fit you. I do not, ever, lend my vintage costuming out because the chances of finding something similar to fit a 2000s figure is about as slim as my bank balance is right now.

Ah, only a fool would spend £100 on a costume. A fool, or someone who has no real idea of the cost of living :)

If you can't borrow, get down to Primark, get a striped tee, and a skull scarf from Topshop or Claire's Accessories to wear as a bandana. The other kit'll be found on eBay.

All I have is the stuff you borrowed for your yachting adventure. You're welcome to it again but it sounds like you've had some much more impressive offers!
