Bachelor Party
Mar. 12th, 2007 10:54 amYesterday was
joe_smoke's stag party and marks the first of my big best man duties done. Paintball happened in the afternoon followed by some pub time and dinner in Zizzi's in the evening.
Paintball was a little worrying at first due to the fact that the notes for the booking were incomplete. When I asked about lunch I was told that was only for full days. Given I'd arranged lunch and promised it to everybody else I was worried about an early mutiny. They were looking hungry already...
Luckily after mentioning my housemate (
bubba1974) by name the guy (possibly paul) realised who I was and became incredibly helpful. He was a friend of my housemate (who helped me sort stuff out) and we got some damn good treatment.
6 games + one bonus "pain" game were played and it was all bloody good fun. I had one moment of glorious victory (first game - winning it for our team when the last man standing - I think 4 against one down to two against one by the end). I nearly had two more glorious moments of victory, one stopped by the stag himself (classic outflank with Joe being the rearmost man on their team - it would have been a wrap up if I'd got him). The other was a similar outflanking but I didn't get as far since a cross battlefield paintball popped me on the knee.
A more accurate gun would have made me unstoppable I decided. :)
There were uneven teams since there were 15 of us and the bigger team did win. I think overall though that it probably counted as a draw. There were several games when it was down to one man on the bigger team to make all the difference. I think in fact what we decided though was that since we all had a fantastic time that we all won. :)
The pub and the meal are less exciting to describe. It was lots of sitting around chatting, drinking, eating and so on. I got to talk to Dan (does he have an LJ?) over dinner which was good since I hadn't seen him in ages. I had considered some toasting of the groom at dinner but by the time I really thought about it everybody had finished drinks and so on so I didn't bother. I'll get quite enough of that in a fortnight anyway.
All in all a fantastic day. Poor Joe is a bit battered and bruised but seems in high spirits today anyway. I do feel quite chuffed that lots of people complimented me on a good day. I mean, yes, this post is blowing my own trumpet to a certain extent but nobody else has done it on LJ that I've seen so I have to. :)
I have also decided that sometime in the summer another paintball even should be organised open to all. I'm sure there are lots of girlies and others who would be up for some paintballing.
Anyway... back to work...
