Well, I am not updating often these days but I just had a busy weekend so thought it would be a good time. Friday night was the usual anime night. Its only the second time I've been this term and missed a lot at the end of the last so I'm not that up on the stuff we are watching. However, it was fun and chatting to people afterwards was good.
Saturday saw me getting up to head into town to meet
orthomyxo out of her last exam. Went to find
taigne first but failed to. Instead let myself into her room and stole her internet until she turned up, having remembered I was going to be there at some point.
The afternoon was spent with drinking, lounging around and general mooching. Dome shopping was done and I spent lots on DVDs (though I now own the first three seasons of Family Guy so not bad really). Dinner was done at the tapas place of whcih I have mixed opinions. Everybody complained at the waitress trying to sell us more food because she thought what we were ordering (a tapas dish each) wouldn't be enough. I'm inclined to agree with her. I wasn't hungry by the end of it but I certainly wasn't full up. It was nice food though so they are forgiven.
Raoul's cocktail place was next on the agenda. First time I'd been in there and they do do some very nice cocktails. They spend quite a while over making them which is a mixed blessing since it does mean there is something of a queue for the bar. It was also quite busy which led to me spilling drink (on people who refused to move despite my asking repeatedly and loudly) but not too much. They do some nice shooters there as well and I had a couple of those. Good cocktails which looked quite strong from the amount of spirits going in but hit the right spot of not tasting like they were very alcoholic. A place I could truly get wasted. However, at 5.50 for the cheapest normal cocktail (though shooters were 3 pound for 2) it would be an expensive night out.
After people started falling asleep
kissifa and I went back to mine to watch Team America. Very funny but I kept dozing off during it which is a little antisocial. Much chatting was done and then sleep. Jen couldn't be bothered to drive home late so crashed over and so chatting and Bongos was done in the morning.
Then I played on the computer to kill some time before heading into town to go punting. Punting was fun and slightly weird. I never think of myself as a great punter. I feel I know the basics and can go forward but not that quickly. It turned out I was RPGSoc Expert Punter for the day. The question of who could punt was asked and I said "I can but I'm not going to because I just want to relax in a boat." When it turned out that of the 9 of us going from st catz only two other people could punt and they were really not sure of their ability.
So I punted lots. We wandered up and down the river, not falling in and not losing the pole at all which was nice. And then turned around. I did about 75% of the punting in our boat so after all that exercise I was pretty knackered. On the other hand it did start getting easier as time went on. The first ten minutes were the worst with my arms going "Leave us alone!" but it got better and by the end of it I was not exhibiting any great speed but I was exhibiting skills which meant my merry crew hardly had to dodge branches at all. It was fun.
After punting there came chilling at parson's pleasure which included lew latin poetry that I was asked to read out in a nice loud clear voice. It was very silly and the kind of thinking that I strangely didn't find out about at school. :)
The evening contained a cinema trip for sin city. I really liked it. The comments of "excessive violence" that I have heard I don't agree with. It was very violent but I can't really think of any bit of violence that didn't add to the mood and atmosphere of the film or was more important than that. So not too violent, just very violent.
And then home, and a bit of distraction before getting to bed too late. Oops.
