Skiing was awesome. THe quick summary is as follows:
Saturday was a stupidly early start and lots of travelling but flying is fun so that was ok. The place we were staying is beuatiful and austria in general seems to be gorgeous.
Sunday was the first bit of skiing and I went off up the mountains. Big mistake because everybody there was *far* better than me. Bad planning on my part and a bit of an oversight from the organisers who didn't realise how crap I was. Lots of time on my ass followed by a minor panic attack. Then a thoroughly pleasant morning in a cafe drinking coke and getting a tan(/burn). Afternoon was spent on a much nicer and easier slope which I coped with. Drank in the evneing.
Monday was better with lessons where I improved my skiing vastly. I was awesome. It was great fun and really made up for the fact I hadn't enjoyed the previous day much.
Tuesday was the most awesome day of all absolute awesomeness. I won the race which was put on for all us beginners - a slalom thing that I won by something like 4 seconds (my time 26 seconds to the next place 30ish). Then I went to lunch by skiiing. Really cool to actually ski to get somewhere rather than just to go up and down a slope. There were of course lifts involved as well. Ended up at the top of the mountain for lunch in the restaurant there. Then I skiied down again. Really hard slope (for me) and so I'm really proud I did it. Such a good rush and a great change to go on slopes I wasn't familiar with.
Then it was home time and much sadness and much tiredness and much crashing out. I talked to
quisalan when I got home and I think I bounced a lot but I think I did it in the way of a man who was about to collapse from exhaustion so I have no idea really what I said or what she said.
Still exhausted.
P.S. Done a quick scan over LJ. Anything from the past 4 days I've not read now I won't unless you tell me I should.

Date: 2006-03-22 11:21 am (UTC)Glad to hear you enjoyed it - skiing is one of my favourite things and I think more people should be converted to it. Just be careful you never fall to the Dark Side and start snowboarding. *muttered curses in the general direction of all snowboarders*
And of course apres-ski rocks too.

Date: 2006-03-22 11:30 am (UTC)The hotel we used to stay at in Obertauern had the first lift across the street and in the evening you came down a path from the last slope and only had to take your skis off right in front of the back door. It was fantastic.
I really miss skiing but I haven't dared to since the fateful winter of '87 when I injured both my knees (not during skiing, mind, but the knees are the weakest spots), especially as I had just learned how to do it reasonably well. :o(

Date: 2006-03-22 11:41 am (UTC)The first ski lift (and the bunny slope for learning etc.) was 100 yards up the road from teh hotel (Can't find a link to their webpage directly) and could be used to ski ultimately to anywhere in a huge region (3rd biggest connected set of ski thingies in the world or something like that). Not quite as close as yours by the sounds of things but close enough. :) Really nice people running the place too. More detail will be forthcoming at a later point though. :)

Date: 2006-03-22 01:41 pm (UTC)Now, if you see the goit who stole my voice besure to give him a sound hiding and demand he return my voice immediately... otherwise, there is no urgent desperate need for you to check my lj - unless you feel like entering my nome competition which I doubt... [grins innocently]
... anyway, welcome home Chris and I look forward to seeing you on the 8th!

Date: 2006-03-24 02:55 pm (UTC)P.S. Got Cable/Deadpool four yesterday. *so* good. Awesome spiderman vs deadpool fight too. And truly disturbing scenes of deadpool rubbing suntan lotion into cable which apparently is his greatest fantasy. Can we say "total slash"? :)
