ayacon - a quick summary
Aug. 23rd, 2005 05:30 pmI'll write more later but just wanted to say I've been away at Ayacon (anime convention) for the weekend and so didn't read most of LJ since last wednesday (I was off work on thursday as well so no internet).
It was an absolutely fantastic weekend. I got a bit down on Friday night and sunday night but the rest was so much fun that it totally didn't matter. :)
Things I did include:
- watching a lot of anime
- meeting interesting new people
- helping be security for a rock concert
- having a japanese rock band take photos of me (and others) on their mobile phones)
- getting proof that rock stars really do party with groupies after the show and sleep with them.
And despite the fact that three of those points all relate to one event ultimately they were very much once in a lifetime (or maybe a couple of times) type things whereas the anime isn't that shiny or exciting relatively. It was all fun though. Anime highlights include surfing mecha, Dokuro-Chan, more bloody than any tarantino film, "He is my master" - rich schoolboy hires classmates as maids and pervs a lot, and many others. I'll give full writeups of the good and the bad when I've time to write them up.
Ended up taking yesterday off work too. Mainly due to getting home at 6:00 in the morning (I left conventry at 4:30 as the post gig party broke up and napped for 30 minutes on the way home - I did park first).
It was awesome though...

Date: 2005-08-24 09:43 am (UTC)Not as random as bobobo-bo bo-bobo but still top stuff that I intend to inflict on people once I have a net connection and can download.
Or just try http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/589.html
And the blood concert was pretty cool. I didn't know any of their music so not as great as it could have been. but it was fun music and stuff. And I got to be security. :)

Date: 2005-08-24 03:19 pm (UTC)Although I've only watched the first two episodes Xenosaga is something I definitely want to watch more of (12 episodes). There was some good stuff that I think will work for random episodes with potential for longer term if people wanted (dokuro-chan).
Elemental Gerad was fun and involved flying ships, big swords and weirdness (the big sword was actually a girl that turned into the sword).
Eureka 7 had surfing mecha and looked fun.
Futakoi Alternative was a lighthearted detective type thing which I have recollections of being OK.
The trouble is most of these I only saw two episodes so its hard to say whether they will have long term appeal or not.
