Well, I just came across what might be the start of the first negative point of the game. It stareted like this: "Hey. ur characater's really cute".

It went on with lots of complements and when he started with the "asl" (age, sex, location for those not up on the desperate internet saddo slang) I started trying to work out what to say.

The crux of the problem? THere are several races in final fantasy I wanted to play a mithra. They're cat-like including have a swishy tale. I watned ot play one. But they only allow you to play female ones. "Oh well," thinks I, "not a problem."

So yeah, I told him that I was a bloke and he kept chatting to me. "Cool, maybe he's not just a desperate internet saddo after all."

A while later though came the phrase that filled me with dispair "I know ur male. At least you say you are..." What response is there to that? I mean, you've told him you're a bloke and he starts insinuating that he doesn't believe you? I tried to persuade him but hey, I wasn't getting annoyed enought to say "piss off, you twat". If he's still there when I get back I might though... :)

I hope this isn't likely to be a regular thing. I haven't had any other similar problems though and a once off its quite amusing. Certainly entertained [livejournal.com profile] zandev when I told him at the time. I've been called she a fair bit but that wasn't a problem. Its only mildly annoying when I'm being sexually harrassed (to overexaggerate the case slightly) by somebody who seems to find it hard to believe that I am male.

I don't even want to remember the comments he was making about how he wished my character were real.

Though I do want to remember how after about 30 minutes of talking to me he said "I'm male IRL" (or words to that effect). I couldn't help but reply "I guessed". I didn't add on "and I don't care". :)

In all honesty I think it was hilarious. He didn't get in the way of my levelling up and it was quite nice to have a cheerleading squad, even if he was probably just playing with camera angles to look up my skirt or down my top while I was killing bad guys.

I'd forgotten how bad it could be to be female online sometimes. Ladies, you have my sympathy and my assurances that any comments along the lines of "I think ur (LJ pic/username/image in my head) is sexy!" from me will not be as blindly meant as this but will have the full belief behind it that I really do think you are sexy or that your username is. I'm not just one of those desperate internet saddos... :)

When I'm bored at work and have finished my homework and refreshed my livejournal five times to no avail I look at my friends' friends pages. Rhona always has good taste in people and I miss the UK

When I was a student, I used to play a MUD which ran from some of the physics computers in the university buildings. Although nominally a questy game, it was a very chatty place.

I played a female character. Absolutely no one believed me. Apparently I was one of the most unconvincing females some of them had ever met online.

On a more practical note, you can blacklist players in the game, so you never receive any of their messages. :)

Well, you *did* choose to play a Mithra!

I've heard that some people deliberately play female characters because they get more help and free loot from the other players. But there is a downside...
