A weekend of RP
Jul. 28th, 2003 02:38 pmThis weekend has been very long. To the extent that I was getting that "Was that only yesterday?" feeling at times.
Friday - London Garou
5PM left to go to pick krys (
quisalan) up and head down to london. Much buffy karaokeing on the way down (some without music too which was scary that I managed it (well, not always in tune but keeping time and knowing words). The game was very fun. Got to do a scene with Nick run by caroline (
nevecat) which was a long time coming. Some important stuff and I came away from it quite happy with the knowledge that people aren't always bad and it was a nasty wyrm thingy making her be evil.
AFter that some IC chat followed by the glasswalkers assuming that other people were incompetent and being proven right. Phone call goes along the lines of "We just beat up and killed some bad guys?" "Do you need us to come and clean up the mess?" "No, Mattheus is dealing with it" "OK we'll be there as soon as possible."
So we go there and get told, no no veil breach. Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing to worry about. And then eventually get told that they burnt the two bodies in an abandoned underpass. So we go there and find a policeman investigating already and radioing for help. With stealth and subtlety and seduction the three of us (two glasswalkers and a fox thing) go to find out what has happened and what they have found about thes bodies (still giving the others the benefit of the doubt at this stage but covering all bases). When I find the guy measuring claw marks and bite marks as well as the sword wounds I face plamn slightly and wonder if the other garou really think too hard about these things.
Anyway, plans are vaguely afoot to sort that out. Need to meet up with caroline and nick at some point to do that. Maybe next weekend after Exalted or something.
So after the game it was back to Nick's place with krystyna to crash.
Saturday - Abyssal Exalted
So next morning an earlyish start (for a weekend) and we met Nick's mum. For the next hour or so her and krystyna talked about crusades, asia, and much other stuff. I finished statting up my character for the game.
About 11 or so we finally leave for the game (we were meant to be there at 11). Drop krys off at the station to head back to oxford and go to the game. The game was fun. We got to kill people, we got to find artifacts. We got to find a manse (that I wanted for myself but others forced me to share though that might be dealable with).
I wasn't happy really with how I played my character. I'll have to give it some thought between games to work out what I should be doing. I think I went into "Generic Chris character" mode. It wasn't entirely bad but it wasn't what he was meant to be (which in all honesty is unobtainable but he is too far from it). I think not knowing the precise situation is why I floundered slightly with the actual RP. That and trying to get the hang of the style of RP from a bucnh of people with a totally different RP background from most of the people I do tabletop with (oxford people).
Looks like it could be a campaign that gives us a fair bit of loot. We have already picked up an orichalcum dagger and set of gauntlets as well as a crappy ring made of the same stuff and a level four manse (with I believe another one just next door if we can get into it). I think this is our only lead on loot at the moment (there is likely to be another item when we open the last box we have that is currently unopened.
Anyway, during the game I got fed (roast pork and chip shop chips which was very nice but a little unusual). We actually finished at about 10PM at which point I rushed back to oxford.
Saturday evening - not RP but a Templar's party.
There was a BBQ that I had promised a few people I'd be at in oxford in templar's. It was actually quite a bugger to get to (I was due in london the next daya nd staying over there again would have been so much easier in some ways). However, I did want to see people so I navigated my way back home which was fun. Driving through london not really knowing where I was but trusting in my sense of direction was fun. I got where Iw as going though which was cheery. And bored Lucie on the phone by giving her a brief run down of "its ok, I'm turnign left now. Ah, there's a signpost, looks like I'm in the right place. OK. Right here I think..." luckily I didn't do that for very long. And before people start grumbling I was on hands free kit thing.
The party was good. Especially due to three girls throwing themselves at me before I'd even left the hallway. Its nice to be loved and to know that it was worth driving all that way to the party. Hugs from cute girls are good but there weren't enough of them. :)
Didn't stay at the party long (getitng there at 11:45 tends to do that to you) and when I saw that krys had fallen asleep and since I was getting her up early in the morning I decided to make my leave and take her (and tommy) home. She was a bit "nyahh.. leave me alone" but when I pointed out the situation she seemed to be up relatively quickly.
So got home and slept and woke up nice and early the next day.
Sunday - SwordsMaster
Phoned krys to make sure she was awake. She was and told me steve was after a lfit too. He hadn't mentioned it to me but luckily krys remembered. :) Phoned him and told him I'd be round. Got there and knocked ont he door. No answer. Phoned steve and he said he'd be out in a second. He wasn't so I went and sat on my car for a bit until he got out (see, I said it was his fault I was late).
Stopped off for petrol that I had forgotten I needed to do (see, told you I was late because I had to stop for petrol). I seem to be driving far too much at the moment and spending far more than I can afford on petrol. I wish I was more evil about asking for petrol money but I always feel mean to do so.
Got to krys's and waited while she shut down her computer and stuff (see, I told you I was late becaues I was waiting for krys). We then headed off down to London whilst talking about various stuff including the apocalypse (which I am sure will be a conversation point for a few weeks) and singing buffy a bit. hit some traffic on the M25 which didn't help (see, I told you I was late because of traffic) and finally got to Dom and Dawn's.
Steve came in to say hello and since we hadn't developed a Martin yet he stopped and chatted for a bit longer until Martin arrived and we got on with roleplay.
The session started off in a relatively normal fashion. Portals to strange realms where a city has been totally isolated from time and space and an eery darkness hanging over the place since time was frozen at night. The whole wandering around and finding the clif edges at the end of the world was definitely relatively normal for us. Dimploming with people was not out of the ordinary and after a while we got to talk to the new Duke Lawrence, the perpetrator of this great magic who did so purely to get his revenge on one woman. Bit of a psycho at times, methinks.
Talking with him made many of us think he'd be a great ally. He had many views in line with ours and disliked many of the same people. After coming away I suggested that I could tell him some relatively secret but not critical information to see how trustworthy he would be. Danaeus, our athorian political advisor was busy flitting from place to place and so wasn't available for consultation so we (Brianna and I) headed off to the palace to see the duke.
When we got there we found a great panic and when Brianna annoucned herself the guard rapidly asked for her healing mage. Since I was there we hot tailed it to where Lawrence was lying bleeding and predictably enough poisoned on the floor. I managed to save him but he was still unconscious so we stayed with him until Danaeus arrived to see what was up. He identified the poison used and offered an antidote. There was still some poison in his system but not a fatal dose so I thought it wouldn't hurt. However, OOC we all by this time new that Dom/Danaeus had been behind the attempt on his life.
I wanted to check that the antidote was the right one so was trying to do magic to keep an eye on his insides while Danaeus applied the antidote. However, he applied the antidote and then immediately sought to disrupt my spell so I couldn't see what was going on inside him. After a while it became clear, danaeus having never questioned my magic or pretended he understoof it any more than me, that he was being a dodgy bloke. Being tempted to blat him with magic I took the more sensible option of telling Brianna to get him out of here which she did just. Danaeus made a last attempt to get the guards to remove me which the idiots fell for but quickly backede down when shouted at by both Brianna and myself. Lo and behold the antidote was actually another poison which I failed a few focus tests while trying to remove so my magic was insufficient to save him.
Finding myself physically shaking at this point I decided that my character must quite definitely be in a large state of shock at this point. I quickly told Brianna what had happened through telepathy and then kind of tuned out most of the world while sitting there going "its my fault he died" a lot. I could have shopped Danaeus and had guards on every gate out of the city probably if I'd wanted but he is somebody I had come to trust and I wasn't yet entirely convinced that he was screwing us over, so I wanted to at least here his side to give him a chance to confess.
After a while I went from shock into blind rage. Seeing the Duke lying there dead where I had failed to save him sent me a little over the edge. I attempted to make telepathic contact with Danaeus and by a fluke chance managed it (the odds of succeeding were fairly low). I talked to him and when he refused to tell me why he had done it (it was between him and brianna) I attempted to bring some of my more effective spells against him. Unfortunately I didn't fully understand how they worked and I was unable to do any of the stuff I wanted to (read his mind or just hit him with such a large dose of power that it would knock him out). I took a guess at where he might have been and missed him.
I'm going to return to where Brianna is to find out what is going on and probably by that time the anger is going to have worn off and be replaced by a whole lot of unhappy feelings. Brianna has a letter from Danaeus which I have not seen yet (IC or OOC) and there will be a long talk between the two of them. We're planning on doing this tonight and it could become interesting. It could certainly end up with the two of them going and spending the evenign getting pissed or it could end with Taronus going "sod all this politics, I'm staying here to research magical artifacts of neemy power."
I guess if Dawn is reading this we should check whether anythign important is likely to happen in the next few hours? I'm guessing that it is later afternoon, early evening by now (we've had a fairly busy day). The question being will anything else happen or can we RP sneaking out to a pub and getting very very drunk if that comes up? I assume a conversation won't be too much of a problem but as GM do shout if we are going to only have half an hour or whatever to do this in.
Sunday evening - Oxford Cam
Anyway, after swordsmaster finished it was a quick drive back to oxford for the oxford Cam game. Never have I been so busy at a game I don't think. From DC stuff (arriving late caused this problem so nobody but myself to blame) such as giving directions to people a little lost and so on to trying to do a scene with my mage character with some people.
Then after the game had started trying to finish scenes, talk to people, have hundreds of people tell me of all the bad shit that was going down, everybody thinking that what they had to say was important even when it often really wasn't, and a strange unknown entity that I was told was a massive threat and turned out to be just a very yound entity with no understanding of anything really.
Its times like this that make me not want to be in charge of anything. :)
It was a fun game though. I got to tell the story of Rhian and Leonie to somebody. Made me wander off and sit in a corner and cry for a bit. Made me slightly peeved that that good roleplaying awards seem to go those who do stuff publically or while being STed for stuff. I can't nominate myself for it obviously and I guess maybe I am biased so I don't really deserve anythign anyway. Just made me think when other people were commented on as "actually being in tears in the scene" as evidence of good RP going on. *shrug* maybe I'm just being an XP whore.
So that's that. As mentioned above more RP happening tonight. Not quite sure where or when yet but it will be and somewhere. After that I dare say I will do some more write up for Dawn's benefit so she knows what went on.
I think this is quite long enough for now though. I bet you're glad I put those cuts in aren't you? :)
