[Just now]
Dammit. Just nearly got ambushed by a class 3. HE came crawling along my desk, making good use of cover as he moved (and my desk has a lot of cover on it). I thought I heard something but assumed it was just me jogging stuff as I typed/moused.
Then I turn around and there he is about three inches from my left hand. I'm not sure what his plan was then because having been rumbled he fled for cover.
[Three hours ago]
I was sitting on the couch when I spy a spider wandering through from the dining room. He wanders around a bit but after a while starts heading my way so I wearily go to get a glass. He's only a class three so not a big problem. A brief moment of panic as he heads for my feet but no more than that. Then he is out the door with a flick of the wrist fromt eh glass I am holding him in.
[Just now]
I slowly start removing pieces of cover. The headphones whose wires he is in go first and he scrambles for more cover as his old cover starts deserting him. The papers, the old pringles tube, the bag of tacks... none stay around long enough for him to hide behind until he is forgotten. The pursuit is relentless.
Then he catches onto a plan that gives him respite. He disappears. I can't see him any more. He isn't where he was and I'm not sure where he is. He is free.
[Two hours ago]
Spider A> They got dave. He was going on a quick scout out of cover and they caught him.
Spider B> Shit. You gotta be kidding?
Spider A> Nope. I was behind the tele in the vent when it happened. Glassed and then front doored. I've sent some of the little ones out looking for him but he got quite a fling. He could be disoriented out there.
Spider B> Dammit. He's becoming more confident. If we don't do something he'll be just grabbing us with his hands next. There was a time when we could wander round in front of him unmolested. We need to get back to those days.
Spider A> You've given me an idea. He still jumped when Dave headed towards him. Maybe we can put the fear of god back into him. Make him afraid to go near us like back in the old days.
Spider B> That's not a bad plan and I Know just the spider for the job...
[a few minutes later]
Spider C> You sent for me?
Spider B> We have a job for you. Terror tactics against the human occupant of the house. Your mission is to walk on him. Preferably finding open skin. If you can hit the face its a bonus but any open skin should do. Danger minimal - he never kills. You're the best we've got. Go to it.
Spider C> I'll be back. [Exits]
Spider A> You really think he can do it?
Spider B> If he can't, nobody can...
[Just now]
I look for him, I can't see him down the back of the desk. I look underneath but still see nothing... but wait... what's that.
As I look I see two legs hooking uner the panel of wood that comes down the back of the desk. I have him again... As I look back he is gone but it is too late, he's located now. I move to pick up some paper, an envelope, not too big but it has rigidity. The class 3 is near the edge of the desk. A mistake on his part I think but no, a better thought out plan since I can't get the glass over him without afording him an escape route.
[One hour ago]
The spider carefully got into position. He was behind the desk now, the large monitor blocking any possibility of him being spotted before he had started his approach run. Now all he had to do was wait for his opportunity...
[Just now]
the envelope prodded him and he retreated under the onslaught, looking for a safe spot to avoid being herded but he was harried now and not thinking. He retreated down but moved underneath the protective wooden board that had been keeping him safe at the edge of the table. He had been busy avoiding the trapped by a glass and then with an unexpected flick of the envelope he was tumbling into the bottom of a glass. He was caught.
A brief victory gloat and he followed Dave out the front door.

Well, that was the excitement anyway. I'm almost tempted to put that on shadow writers as a nice narrative. :) Took far too long to write though when I should really be in bed or finishing reading e-mails...
Anyway, latest score for today - 2 class three removals. No escapes.

Date: 2002-09-17 02:13 am (UTC)I tend to be more "Wouldn't it be great if spiders evolved never to come into houses ? That gives me an idea Mr. Spider - I can do my bit to help that happen..." <splat>

Request: hide spider edits in clearly labelled lj-cut, please? Otherwise I get embarrassed by 'eek'ing at work.
