How to use gmail

So, with the new phone having a frighteningly easy interface to gmail I am thinking that my life might be made easier if I switch over to using gmail as my main e-mail client. I've been using it as a backup for a while (all my mail got forwarded there so I could access it if I didn't have access to my usual mail server for any reason) but I've never really used it properly.

I'm vaguely aware that you don't sort things into folders in the same way I would with my normal mail client but instead just put labels on things or something. Can this be done automatically (eg all stuff coming into a given mailing list address gets a given tag)?

I'm sure there are also lots of cool features of gmail that I have no idea of at all as well. So to all those who use gmail a lot (or even a bit) I invite you to tell me all the cool stuff that gmaili can do that you find indespensible and even the small things that just make you like it more...

Or if you can point me at any web sites that say such things... Yeah, I can google but since I have a wealth of resources reading my LJ and ready to help I can be lazy and get my NaBloPoMo count up all at the same time!

Rapid Edit: Also anybody who uses google chat should let me know since I am likely to be tryign to use that a whole lot more now on my new Device. Hmmm... I should name my Device shouldn't I... Any suggestions on that too?

Remember remember the 8th of November

So, the 8th of November being fireworks day (what?) I was considering going down to South Park to watch the fireworks there and wondered if anybody else was planning on going and wouldn't mind me tagging along or if not if people are interested in forming a posse... Dailyinfo says: "Gates 5pm, display 6.30pm, followed by bonfire" and I would of course want to sit and watch the huge pretty fire for a bit. I doubt I'd want to be there as early as 5PM though, probably aim to be there for 6ish...

So anybody else interested? Drop me a comment or some other kind of communication...
